![]() ![]() I literally just hit the Linkedin post character limit and I'm not even close to the end of my experience. "Well, remember we're on the forefront of new technology," says one of them, bravely as we all get soaked by ice cold PNW rain. We eventually get about a 10% SOC increase, enough, we figure to make it to another EA station just north of Seattle where we've charged successfully before.īefore leaving, I try to help another couple who'd just pulled up to the 3rd of 4 "operational" chargers, who are stuck somewhere between the connection of the cable and the waving of the phone over the proximity reader, timing out and already dialing up the EA support team. This charger, too, is reported to be operational by the EA app. So I'm pretty cold and wet by now, so my wife and I start switching off holding the charger in place when our fingers go numb. Each time I move a little bit, the session stops and I have to start over.Īt this point, I should share that it was a classic mid-February day in the pacific northwest - 39 degrees and light rain. But only if I continue to push against it constantly. It does appear though that if I hold it in place firmly (pushing with my entire body weight and not turning at all), it somehow starts charging. So I connect the cable, kind of push it in, trying to get it to lock in place, but no luck on the nice click. As the previous person was leaving, she said that she'd had to kind of twist the cable on top of itself to get it to stay in her car for the charge and wished me luck. Next, I move my car to one of the other chargers, a 350 KW unit that had just come available. ![]() And tech support didn't call me back despite asking for a phone number they could reach me at if we got disconnected. I'm not sure if the tech reset it or not because the call cut out before I could actually get help charging, not just releasing my car. After 8 minutes the charger somehow lets go of my car. I get on the phone with EA tech support to try to get help, got someone right away who has me holding down different buttons on the charger, nothing is working. I hit the unlock button on the key fob 3 times (learned that a while back), still nothing. Only the charging cable won't detach from my car. After much waving and iphone button punching, the connection times out and says to please unplug and try again. I pull in to the one available (150 KW), plug in, wait for the connection to vehicle and then hold my phone up to the proximity reader. 4 chargers, all functioning according to the EA app. As CEO of an EV-focused company, who's pretty understanding of the early tech experiences, this was pretty awful.įirst (and intended) stop, the Walmart parking lot in Mt. Today was my first public charging experience trainwreck. No, this was not a full summary of my charging session(s), Electrify America. ![]()
